First of all I was up waaaaaay too late last night. It was past 1am before I finally got to bed. I really need to stop doing that. Anyway, today was my first test run of my new Ipod. I was a little sceptical at first, bit it is starting to grow on me. Apple really didn't skip any of the details on the little guy. First of all, putting music on it was a breeze. I absolutely loath iTunes, so Vaso recommended this program called MediaMonkey instead. It is a really nice package. My favorite feature is the automatic correction of file tags available by comparing your songs with those on Amazon.com. It is really cool because if I can finally get the native Japanese song names (they are usually romanized) quickly and effectively. Another cool feature is that when I transfer songs to my shuffle, I can have MediaMonkey automatically scale down the bitrate from 320 to 128 (or any number of other preferences). This allows me to fit another extra 150+ songs on the little guy. Oh and speaking of little, this guy is tiny! The bundled headphones are really short at about 3 feet long and the entire package fits into the front pocket of my shirt, with no extra bulge. It also has a really handy "clip" that means I can clip it to my jacket, or the strap on my bag, or my earlobe, or my hair. The list goes on and on. So what about the music you ask? Well it gets the job done. The quality is only as good as what you set it to when transferring. Also I swear the thing can read minds. Someone else tried it out and hit the next button. The next thing I hear them say is "this song is sweet!" So that is my little rant of the day. I highly recommend the iPod shuffle. It may have no screen, but it is really cheap at $40 and $70 respectively.
So today I went to class dead tired. I got there about 15 minutes early and proceeded to make small talk with the other students. When Adam arrived I moved seats to the back and sat next to him. Finally when the professor came in, I switched seats again in order to better see and hear him. I pretty much slept through lecture. We introduced ourselves and had break time between the two periods. At this time Shoko finally came in and I caught up with her a bit. We decided that we need to hit up a coffee place soon and catch up. I also got involved in conversation with the kid in front of me and the girl next to me. Once the professor came back we proceeded with movie time! We watched this documentary on Japan made in 1990 that dealt with how different Japan is from America. Among the more interesting points, they visited a love hotel that was themed like the USA. One room had red, white, and blue all over, another had neon lights and casino games in it, yet another was the picture of a boxing ring. Weird weird weird! It was a really bad documentary, which is why the professor showed it to us. He then asked us what could be done better... Everything!
As everyone was busy for lunch, I asked the girl sitting next to me to go grab some food. Her name is Ayumi like the singer and she is going to graduate this year. Her English is amazing, but she is shy about using it so we spoke in Japanese most of the time. We walked all the way over to Yasube and had some amazing Tsukemen. They recently added an option to get double spicy soup which sounds amazing. I would have jumped on it had I not bit my lip a couple days ago. We talked about all things ranging from life, school, interests. All those questions that I have answered a million times before. I guess everyone has a story to tell. After lunch we walked all the way back to Waseda. I ended up at the lounge to study and to see if anyone that I knew would show up.
Once that failed, I decided to check out the Igo room. There were probably 10 people there when I walked in playing Go or Smash Bros. I of course hopped in on the latter. I was told that I was welcome to use the room whenever I felt like it. Supposedly someone is always there once lunch ends. Cool. I wanted to go play Go with them, but figured I should call it a day. I am going to get some sleep tonight!
